Mr. Kneuper came to EI from the Federal Trade Commission where he spent more than 10 years analyzing antitrust matters in a wide variety of industries. At the FTC, Mr. Kneuper’s areas of specialization included mergers and acquisitions, horizontal restraint analysis, the economic impact of damages, intellectual property and innovation. Mr. Kneuper was one of the lead economists at the Commission who developed antitrust policy positions for cases involving patent settlements between branded and generic pharmaceutical companies. Mr. Kneuper worked extensively on two major antitrust cases in this area: Schering/Upsher-Smith and Hoechst/Andrx. Mr. Kneuper also provided key input to the Commission as a lead economist on numerous other antitrust matters (both merger and non-merger) in industries such as pharmaceuticals, health care, media, sports, gaming, defense procurement, retailing and consumer products. Mr. Kneuper was selected to be an expert witness a number of occasions while at the FTC in addition to providing critical support to other economists in their preparation for testimony before federal and administrative courts. Finally, Mr. Kneuper also participated extensively in the Commission’s program providing technical antitrust assistance to countries in development. Mr. Kneuper provided consulting advice to antitrust agencies in a number of developing countries including Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Venezuela.
Mr. Kneuper also spent a number of years as a Senior Consultant at National Economic Research Associates. There, Mr. Kneuper provided expert economic consulting services in both merger and non-merger antitrust cases. Mr. Kneuper’s consulting experience covered a wide variety of industries including sugar, office supplies, aircraft, grocery stores, railroads and more. In addition to antitrust, Mr. Kneuper specialized in damages estimation and analyses related to intellectual property.
Mr. Kneuper also teaches graduate studies part-time at Johns Hopkins University (“JHU”). At JHU, Mr. Kneuper has taught a number of graduate courses including introduction to microeconomic theory and political economy. Prior to teaching at JHU, Mr. Kneuper taught courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, corporate finance, financial management and risk and insurance.
